In 1968, the year before the Stonewall riots in New York City that gave momentum to the Gay rights movement, Rev. Troy Perry began a non-violent revolution in his apartment in Huntington Park, CA... a revolution of faith.
After being defrocked as a Pentacostal minister for being gay, a failed relationship which led to a failed suicide attempt, Rev. Troy Perry had a spiritual experience that brought him closer to God. |
 |
| In that unexpected moment, Rev. Perry was called to start a church for those on the margins of the Christian faith, namely lesbians, gay men, bisexuals and transgendered people, as well as straight people who themselves felt marginalized by the hypocrasy and hatred that is sometimes experienced in other churches. |

Little did Rev. Perry realize that the first service with 12 people in attendance would grow to a global movement of over 20,000 members in more than 40 countries on all 6 inhabited continents.
From humble beginnings, MCC has become the largest Christian movement working to reconcile the LGBT community with the Christian faith, many of whom left out of the pain caused by the very people of faith they learned to love and trust as children or youg adults.
MCC's core values & beliefs include:
The Apostles & Nicene creeds
A belief in one triune God, omnipotent & omnipresent
A belief that the Bible is the inherent Word of God
That it is our calling as Christians to serve one another in love, and that each human being is a Child of God, deserving of God's saving grace through Christ Jesus, enlightened by the Holy Spirit
