In many parts of the world, the freedom to worship as you choose is not a recognized fundamental human right.
In many more nations, being open about your sexual orientation if you are a lesbian, a gay male, a bisexual man or woman, or a transgendered woman or man can mean anything from social ostracism to the death penalty.
Currently, MCC is active in more than 40 countries world-wide, but because of the sensative nature of the status of sexual minorities and / or the practice of unsanctioned faiths, we cannot disclose those publicly. Nations we can disclose are colored in red on the map at right and listed below. |

Being a part of a global movement that is working towards improving both religious freedom and the freedom of sexual minorities while spreading the love and joy of Jesus Christ is an honor and a privilege. But as Christians, it is also a responsibility to help those in darkness, whatever that darkness may be, be it personal, social or spiritual.

In Eastern Europe, MCC has been called "The Human Rights Church" for its work standing with LGBT people and straight allies in the fight for social justice and religious freedom in those places where it does not exist.
In one former Soviet republic, local LGBT community leaders were pelted with human feces as they marched in their first Pride parade. On a Caribbean island plagued with rampant homophobia, MCC churches in the US assist local religious leaders in their church planting that has to remain underground for the safety of the worshippers.
MCC leaders have braved arrest, even death, by going to places where teaching the love of Christ, the liberation of LGBT peoples, even the freedom of women, puts them at grave risk.
Even though RBMCC is one small but growing congregation in one privileged and free corner of a difficult world, it is through our interconnection as a part of MCC that our ability to support the work of our sisters and brothers in faith all over the world is possible.
